The FOX Corporation, Environmental, Health and Safety Department will implement ergonomic control measures upon notification of a repetitive motion
injury or ergonomic concern.
1.0 SCOPE
This procedure applies to all FOX Corporation activities where repetitive motion injuries occur.
2.0 Definitions
Ergonomics:
Ergonomics is a body of knowledge about human abilities, human limitations and human characteristics that are relevant to design. Ergonomic design is the
application of this body of knowledge to the design of tools, machines, systems, tasks, jobs, and environments for safe, comfortable and effective use.
Repetitive Motion Injury (RMI) / Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI):
A non-traumatic occupational injury to a body part resulting from long-term physical strain imposed by:
- An adverse working position
- Repeated performance of a motion during a significant part of the workday.
- Repeated, improper lifting/handling of objects.
RMI/RSIs do not include injuries caused by a single, identifiable event, such as back strain or hernia caused by improper one-time lifting of a single
object.
2.1 Senior Management
Senior management will ensure that adequate management and budgetary support is allocated to individual departments to comply with this procedure.
2.2 Department Heads
Department Heads will report all repetitive motion injuries and/or concerns to the EH&S department immediately and ensure applicable ergonomic hazard
control plans are implemented and maintained.
2.3 Employees
Employees will:
1. Report any repetitive motion injuries and/or concerns to their supervisor or department head immediately.
2. Employees will observe any required ergonomic safety requirements that may be implemented in their workplace.
2.4 Environmental, Health and Safety Department
The EHS Department will:
- Review all reported ergonomic related concerns to identify those that may be an RMI.
- Determine the proper action for the ergonomics concern such as in house assessments, ergonomic evaluations with a consultant, referral to workers’
compensation. At a minimum, actions will take place or be scheduled within 48 hours. - Notify Workers Compensation of any RMI report that may be an existing or lead to a workers’ compensation claim.
- Assist Department Heads and Employees in the development of ergonomic hazard control plans.
- Administer all follow-up procedures to the Department Heads and Employees to ensure compliance with this procedure.
3.0 Procedure
3.1 Identification of RMIs
The EHS Department will review all reported workplace injuries, illnesses or concerns (see EHS 102, Incident Reporting and Investigation). Any
identified RMI will be entered into a log of RMI injuries and concerns. The following information will be noted for each:
- Workplace where the RMI occurred.
- Date the RMI was first reported.
- Job category of the affected individual.
- Work activities which may have contributed to the condition.
- Equipment and/or workstation concerns.
- Follow up actions necessary and taken within the 2, 4 and 8 week timelines.
- Corrective actions and/or equipment recommended and applied.
- Cost analysis of recommended corrective equipment.
The RMI Injury Log will be reviewed weekly to determine if:
- Any workplace has incurred two or more RMIs within the previous 12 months.
- The RMIs share a common cause or are associated with the same job process.
- Cost effectiveness and practicality of recommended ergonomic equipment and activities.
3.2 Follow-Up Actions
For any workplace in which the above review criteria are met, the EH&S Department will:
- Facilitate an ergonomic assessment of the work process(es) which are responsible for the RMIs, and attempt to :
a. Identify the causative factors.
b. Identify corrective actions to mitigate the hazard.
c. Identify the need for Workers’ Compensation, Facilities/Real Estate, Human Resources.
- Referencing the results of the ergonomic evaluation, the EH&S Department will:
a. Provide no more than a week after the evaluation, a written ergonomic hazard assessment for the work process and distribute to the Department Head. The
Employee will receive notification of their Department Head’s/Supervisor’s receipt of the assessment. Other departments, such as, Workers’ Compensation and
Human Resources will be provided with the assessment only if necessary.
b. Administer an ergonomic hazard control plan which addresses each of the findings in the hazard evaluation. Corrective actions will include one or more
of the following:
- Changes in workstation layout or equipment which will mitigate the ergonomic hazard.
- Changes in work procedures or work rate which can mitigate the hazard.
- Job rotation schedules to reduce individual exposures to adverse ergonomic conditions.
c. Specify worker training requirements, which must at a minimum address:
- Results of the ergonomic hazard assessment.
- Requirements of the ergonomic hazard control plan.
- Signs and symptoms associated with the identified RMI
d. Follow up with the Employee and Department Head in a 2, 4 and 8 week timeline to ensure compliance and effectiveness of recommended corrective actions
and/or equipment.
3.3 Distribution
This Procedure will be maintained in the FOX Environmental, Health and Safety Manual. Where revisions to this procedure are made by the EH&S
Department, notification will be provided to all affected Departments and Productions.
