FOX Corporation requires that employee exposures to hazardous chemicals be evaluated and characterized.
1.0 SCOPE
This Procedure applies to FOX Corporation (FOX) activities where hazardous chemicals are stored, used, or handled.
2.0 Definitions
ACGIH:
American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists
AIHA:
American Industrial Hygiene Association
NIOSH:
National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
Employee Exposure Record:
a record containing specific information for an individual employee that details environmental (workplace) monitoring or measuring of a toxic substance,
biological hazard, or harmful physical agent, including personal, area, grab, wipe, or other form of sampling, as well as related collection and analytical
methodologies, calculations, and other background data relevant to interpretation of the results obtained.
Exposure:
uptake of a toxic substance, biological hazard, or harmful physical agent in the course of employment through any route of entry (e.g., inhalation,
ingestion, skin contact, or absorption).
Cal/OSHA:
California Occupational Safety and Health Administration
PEL:
Permissible Exposure Limit – the maximum allowable exposure to an airborne contaminant, established by Cal/OSHA in Title 8 of the California Code of
Regulations (8 CCR).
TLV:
Threshold Limit Value – a maximum allowable exposure to an airborne contaminant as recommended by the ACGIH.
3.0 Responsibilities
In addition to required Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Program responsibilities discussed in EHS001,
EHS Policy, the responsibilities described below are necessary to ensure the effectiveness of the procedure.
3.1 Department Heads
Department Heads will ensure that the use of hazardous materials in the workplace is identified to the EHS Department.
3.2 Environmental, Health and Safety Department
The EHS Department will:
- Develop methods for evaluating hazardous chemical exposures in Fox workplaces
- Identify potentially hazardous employee exposures
- Develop monitoring plans for evaluation for specific monitoring and evaluation of potentially hazardous exposures
- Conduct exposure monitoring or identify an appropriate consultant to provide assistance with monitoring
- Perform a periodic review of this Procedure to ensure that all requirements are current and meet regulatory requirements.
- Maintain Employee Exposure Records
- Provide access to Employee Exposure Records as required.
4.0 Procedure
As part of FOX’s EHS management program, possible employee exposures will be evaluated, and where the potential exists for significant airborne exposure,
resources will be identified and allocated to quantify the exposure(s).
- The EHS Department will evaluate the potential for employee exposure and develop air monitoring plans.
- The EHS Department may recommend workplace exposure monitoring based on regulatory requirements (e.g., asbestos/lead work) or anticipated elevated
airborne contaminant levels (e.g., painting activities). - Sampling will be conducted by the EHS Department or a designated consultant.
4.1 Monitoring Procedures
- Samples collected in the workplace to assess employee exposures will be collected, using an appropriate sampling strategy and method, such as those
published by NIOSH, AIHA, or ACGIH, as specified in a monitoring plan. - The EHS Department, or designated service provider, will maintain custody of the sampling media from the time it is received until it is relinquished
to a bonded carrier or an accredited laboratory. - Samples will be delivered to an AIHA-accredited laboratory for analysis.
4.2 Exposure evaluation and interpretation
The EHS Department or its consultant will evaluate and interpret the results of all exposure analyses and will notify the affected employees.
- Where modifications to work practices or exposure controls are made, affected departments will ensure that the changes are implemented immediately.
- In performing the evaluation, measured results will be compared to establish regulatory or industrial standards (Cal/OSHA PELs, ACGIH TLVs) or other
established employee exposure criteria.
4.3 Recordkeeping
Results of workplace exposure assessments will be presented to the affected departments by the EHS Department.
- Sampling results will be maintained by the EHS Department as part of departmental records.
- When applicable, copies will also be provided to the Fox Studio Operations Medical Department or the appropriate Medical Provider (see EHS 203, Medical Surveillance) for inclusion in the medical records of the affected employees.
Individual employee exposure records are maintained and available for the duration of employment, plus thirty (30) years.
