FOX Networks Group is committed to the safe performance of building de-construction (demolition) and set/prop/platform de-construction (striking) activities.
1.0 SCOPE
FOX Networks Group (FOX) is committed to the safe performance of demolition and striking work during all its activities. The following requirements specify
the minimum acceptable standards for the performance of demolition and striking work by FOX employees.
2.0 Definitions
Demolition:
the de-construction, disassembly, “Fold and Hold,” removal or modification of buildings, building spaces, or other facilities. This may include office
build-out, re-modeling or removal of building interior (non-load bearing) walls or other structures, or de-construction of permanently installed scaffolds,
catwalks, or other working platforms.
Striking:
the de-construction and disassembly of sets, props, platforms or other production-related structures. In some instances, striking is intended to allow carefully
dismantling and storage (and possible later re-assembly) of production structures; Grips or equivalent crew members perform this work. In other cases, the production structures (e.g., camera platforms, extensions) will not be re-used and striking is intended to permanently de-construct the structures; production and/or labor personnel perform this work.
3.0 Responsibilities
In addition to required Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Program responsibilities discussed in EHS001, EHS Policy, the responsibilities described
below are necessary to ensure the effectiveness of the procedure.
3.1 Department Heads
Department Heads will:
- Ensure that FOX personnel perform no demolition work that will de-construct, remove, or affect any facility’s structural support system
- Ensure that all demolition/striking activities are performed, using proper equipment, procedures, and personnel
- Notify the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Department if the presence of lead- or asbestos-containing materials is suspected in an area
undergoing demolition/striking.
3.2 Employees
All FOX employees will observe the applicable demolition and striking requirements in Section 4.0. Notify production management and EHS of any structure, materials, tools and/or equipment that requires special attention to fully remove or secure all items.
3.3 Environmental, Health and Safety Department
The Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Department will:
- Develop appropriate standards for safe demolition and striking in all FOX activities
- Obtain and annually renew FOX’s Demolition Permit with appropriate occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) offices.
- Review and update this Procedure annually or as necessary to comply with regulatory changes.
4.0 Procedure
Specific requirements will depend upon the type of activity being performed, as presented below.
4.1 Demolition Work
When demolition of buildings and sets are to be performed by FOX personnel, the following requirements will be observed:
- All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used during demolition activities must conform to the requirements of EHS 301, Personal Protective Equipment.
- All tools and equipment used during demolition activities must conform to the requirements of EHS 415, Manual Hand Tools and EHS 416, Powered Hand Tools.
- If the presence of lead-coated surfaces or asbestos containing materials is suspected in areas to be disturbed, or is noted as demolition activities
proceed, removal must occur in accordance with the requirements of EHS 503, Working with Asbestos-Containing Materials, and EHS 504, Working with Lead and Lead-Based Materials.
4.2 Demolition Work – Contractors
Contractors’ safety and health programs will address demolition work performed by contractors (including ALL demolition work involving building structural
support elements).
4.3 Striking & Storage
Workers will carefully disassemble, remove or store structures to avoid damage, and will primarily involve physical and mechanical handling of intact components.
The following requirements will be observed:
- All PPE used during demolition activities must conform to the requirements of EHS 301, Personal Protective Equipment.
- All tools and equipment used during demolition activities must conform to the requirements of EHS 415, Manual Hand Tools and EHS 416, Powered Hand Tools.
- Grips and crew members must utilize leather/cloth work gloves and PPE in accordance with EHS 301, Personal Protective Equipment.
- Workers are required to remove and/or secure ALL items that remain following de-construction or strike. This includes building materials (e.g., wood, metal, plastic), tools, equipment and trash.
